Whyte 605 V4 Hardtail MTB 2023 - Matt Moss

Beeline: The 605 improves on the Whyte 603, using the same frame and design - such as the 27.5” wheels on a hydroformed aluminium frame and 120mm travel fork - but features upgraded components.

Designed and tested in the UK for UK riding conditions, the frame allows for good mud clearance and features internal cable routing for a clean look. The finishing touches are nice, with colour co-ordinated decals on the fork and rims. The Rockshox Judy TK fork is 120mm travel with lockout, this fork is an upgrade over the Suntour fork featured on the Whyte 603.

The drivetrain uses higher grade components than the 603, the 1x10 drivetrain comprises of Shimano Deore 10 Speed Shifters, a single ring chainset with 32T chainring and a wide range 11-46 cassette.

Tektro hydraulic disc brakes are another upgrade over the 603 and provide powerful braking with 160mm rear and 180mm front rotors.

The 605 is a great, fun bike for hitting the trails delivering a great ride.

We’ve designed the 605 to give you a neutral ride feel so you can confidently descend, efficiently climb, flow effortlessly along swooping singletrack, and more. The wide handlebar, short stem, 120mm suspension fork, 27.5in wheels and large tyres all combine with the neutral geometry to give you great control and comfort in all off-road situations – whether riding towpaths, trail centre loops, or wild moorland ways.

The heart of the bike, the light and strong 6061-T6 hydroformed, multi-butted aluminum frame, also blends capability with comfort so that you can ride happy on every ride – no matter how long or short. We’ve also mounted the rear brake on the chainstay – rather than the traditional seatstay – to add even more comfort for long days in the saddle.

We’ve engineered the 605’s multi-butted alloy frame to ensure that living with it for the long-haul is as hassle-free as possible. That includes weather sealing the internally routed control cable and brake hos ports to keep the water and muck where it belongs – outside – as well as maximizing mud clearances thanks to our big-tyre friendly Single Chain Ring frame design.

It also features a lock-out dial so you can ‘switch off’ the suspension when you want to maximise your pedaling efficiency – when riding on roads mid-ride, or when commuting by bike in the week – that, combined with the fast-rolling Maxxis tyres, ensure it isn’t just easy, but enjoyable too.

The Single Chain Ring-specific 1X (“one-by”) frame is dressed with Shimano’s simple and easy-to-use 1x10 transmission. Using a single 32T chainring combined with a 10-speed 11-46T rear cassette to give you the gear range to tackle testing climbs as well as the ability to speed along on smooth trails and fast descents. The rear derailleur itself also benefits from a ‘clutch’ mechanism to stop the chain secure and stop it bouncing around when riding rough terrain.

Dependable braking power through all weathers is guaranteed thanks to Tektro’s powerful HD-M275 hydraulic disc brakes front and rear so you can stay in control, all the time; we’ve also added a larger 180mm disc rotor on the front to boost your braking power further.
