The Trek 1.2 is built using Trek's 100 series Alpha aluminium and features a carbon fork for an improved ride quality over the 1.1; the carbon fork absorbs road vibrations better than the aluminium fork found on the 1.1 Compact. 

The transmission is also upgraded from the 1.1 Compact; with Shimano Sora 9 speed shifters used along with Shimano Sora front mech and Shimano Tiagra rear mech. The chainset is an FSA compact chainset, with chainrings of 34 and 50 teeth, allowing a wide spread of gears over two chainrings.

The finishing touches are provided by Trek;'s in house brand, Bontrager, with Bontrager bars, stem, seatpost and saddle.
