Bianchi
Italian Grandeur: the world's oldest bike companyHistory
It was in the year 1885 when Eduardo Bianchi started his enterprise as a bicycle manufacturer in his little shop in Milan, at Via Nirone (this road name now lends itself to a range of bikes within the Bianchi line up). Bianchi’s first international success came in 1899, when Tomaselli won the Grand Prix de la Ville de Paris. By 1914 Bianchi was a famous and reputed manufacturer: in just one year, production settled on extraordinary figures: 45000 bicycles, 1500 motorbikes and 1000 cars. The first great Italian champion was Costante Girardengo, naturally riding a Bianchi, but it was Fausto Coppi in the 1940 and 50's who will forever be synonymous with Bianchi, riding their celeste bikes to victory in 5 Giro d'Italia's and twice in the Tour De France in an illustrious career littered with injuries and interrupted by the war. In later year’s Italian stars such as Felice Gimondi, Moreno Argentin, Gianni Bugno, Mario Cipollini and the late Marco Pantani have all ridden Bianchi's to victory.
