About Us

Oxford's Leading Bike Shop

Beeline Bicycles is a family owned, independent cycle shop split over two sites on the Cowley Road, Oxford, with our main shop at 59-65 Cowley Road carrying town and city bikes, mountain bikes, kids bikes along with accessories and a large workshop facility. 50 metres away we have our specialist road bike shop, stocking nothing but road bikes.

Over the two sites we stock leading bike brands such as Specialized, Trek, Marin, Bianchi, Ridgeback, Wilier, Whyte and Cervelo, which offers customers a great choice of high quality bikes, for all uses and disciplines, be it for commuting, road riding or mountain biking. With over 150 models on display you shouldn't be short of choice! Not to mention the huge choice of accessories, making Beeline an 'Aladins cave for the cycle enthusaist!'.

History

Beeline Bicycles was founded in the early 1980’s in central Oxford selling second hand bikes, but soon moved to 33 Cowley Road in the early 80’s. Clive Tulip bought into the business in the mid 1980’s and in 1991 the business moved down the road to its current location at 59-63 Cowley Road.

In the late 1990’s Clive Tulip bought became sole proprietor and took on more retail space, expanding to shop to incorporate 65 Cowley Road. In 2004 Clive Tulip passed away, passing the business onto his descendants, with Luis Tulip responsible for the day to day running of the business subsequently.

The business has continued to grow and prosper, and in 2008 launched its online store. In 2010 Beeline was included in the industry magazine - Bike Biz - ‘Top 20 UK Bike Shops’, in 2011 we opened our specialist road bike shop at 40 Cowley Road and in 2013 we moved the Main Shop to new premises at 205 Cowley Road.

Beeline Today

The Main Shop occupies just under 2500 square feet of retail space at 205 allowing us a vast array of bikes, accessories, cycle clothing, coffee area and workshop.

We are open 7 days a week, 8-6 Mon-Sat, 10-4.30 Sunday, with parking directly outside the main shop, should these spaces be occupied there are numerous parking bays on the surrounding side roads and there are car parks very close at Tesco and the Health Centre.

The road shop at number 40 Cowley Road carries nothing but road bikes, with a small workshop for road bikes and a large range of associated accessories, and a coffee area.

We have our own race team, sponsor the local time trial race league and are a co-sponsor of Zappi’s cycling team.

The Staff

We employ eleven full time members of staff all of whom are cyclists in one discipline or another, split over the two shops.

Workshop & Repair Tracker

Our main workshop is located at the main shop. We aim for a 24 hour turnaround time on all repairs, replacement parts permitting. If a bike is brought into us at the main shop before 9 am we aim to have it ready for collection by 5 pm the same day. Otherwise it is booked on to be ready for collection the next day.

The road shop has a small workshop attached, restricted to road bikes as you would expect!

We employ three mechanics, the head mechanic has been with us for over 10 years and is Cytech Level 3 qualified.

Our repair tracker is a unique service that sends email and text updates as to the status of the customers repair / service. This lets the customer know when their bike is ready for collection and also allows for them to pay for their repair online, speeding up the collection process.

Bike Sales & After Service

We like all customers to test ride their bike before purchase; this allows the customers to compare bikes and ensures that the customer is happy their choice prior to purchase. If we do not have the chosen model built up in the customer’s size, this is booked on for the workshop to build in the first available slot.

We offer two free services with every bike purchase, the first service after one month, the second after four months. This dates are not set in stone, there is a degree of flexibility to suit the customer. With new bikes there is quite often a bit of cable stretch on the gears and the brakes as they get first get ridden; the free services allow us to rectify this.

All bike sold are covered by the manufacturers warranty. Companies such as Specialized and Trek are very good with warranty issues, and offer a lifetimes warranty on the frame (for manufacturing defects) and are generally very helpful. Two years is offered on parts and components on bikes, although wear and tear is not covered under this. Naturally, we handle any warranty claims made by a customer and will do our utmost for the customer, as the retailer we have a moral obligation to assist the customer.
